Neighbourhood Empowerment Team (NET)

NET (Neighbourhood Empowerment Team) responds to repeated or significant incidents that may impact the security and safety of ��ϲ��ians across the city. Our aim is to reduce the fear of crime and social disorder amongst community members.

The Neighbourhood Empowerment Team (NET), a partnership between the ��ϲ��, ��ϲ�� Police Service and The Family Centre, works with residents, communities, businesses, and organizations to build solutions to create safe and vibrant neighbourhoods and communities.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Self Assessment

This questionnaire explains the concepts of CPTED and then guides citizens through a series of questions to help self-assess their property. Afterwards, respondents receive feedback on strategies they can use to make their property safer.

NET - This Is Who We Are

Background

The origins of ��ϲ��’s Neighbourhood Empowerment Team (NET) date back over 20 years.

Dickensfield Community Partnership in Northeast ��ϲ��, identified an opportunity to reduce crime and strengthen prevention by working in partnership with ��ϲ�� Police Service (EPS). This observation fed the now apparent notion that the Dickensfield community would be better served if community agencies and EPS worked together and inspired the formation of NET.

What started as informal meetings and EPS ride-alongs in an effort to better align services soon turned into a mindset for community safety and community policing in ��ϲ��. A conviction that community safety is best achieved through partnerships.

NET has seen a lot of changes over the past 20 years, from a single two-person team back in 1997 to 6 teams today.

Where Are We Now?

NET still comprises the ��ϲ�� Police Service (EPS), The ��ϲ�� and The Family Centre.

Going forward NET will address concerns based on recurring issues or situations that are identified. NET will now expand their current geographical area of responsibility from neighbourhood to EPS Divisions. Each EPS Division will be connected to liaisons from both the City and The Family Centre.

The liaisons will be tasked with active engagement and community outreach with a lens for potential issues. Once identified, partner organizations (the former NET management team) will consider the issue and arrange and mobilize resources relevant. The supports required from EPS will be determined and engaged based on the needs presented in each situation.

This approach will allow for multiple collaborative response teams to be engaged city-wide. Staff aligned with the partnership will no longer be tied to exclusive geography - positioning the approach to be applied where it is needed, when it is needed and then redeployed when the need subsides.
